TRAFFORD HOPEFUL FOR OCTOBER OPENING
Trafford Restaurant on Water Street has had a tough couple of years, to put it mildly.
In January of 2019, owner Russell Goyette made a calculated decision to temporarily close down for a month to comprehensively spruce up every nook and cranny in the place, only for a catastrophic hood fire to break out about a month later, on March 14, causing over $1 million in damages.
"Smoke was coming out of the roof and there was water everywhere," Mr. Goyette recalled. "It was pouring from the ceilings in the kitchen and coming down the stairs in the dining room. I tried to get the water off the floor. I was hoping we could fix it quickly and re-open fast."
FIRE DAMAGES TRAFFORD RESTAURANT IN WARREN
Trafford's restaurant on Water Street is closed temporarily after a roof fire early Thursday afternoon.
Warren Fire Chief James Sousa said workers doing repairs at the Warren Town Wharf noticed a large amount of smoke coming from the restaurant's roof line just around 1:15. They and several volunteer fire fighters who happened to be passing by at the time went into the restaurant, advised the half or dozen or so occupants that there was a fire, and pulled the alarm. Everyone got out safely, the chief said.
TALKING ABOUT TRAFFORDS
Trafford Restaurant opened in June 2011 by William Kane, Marguerite Kane, and Russell Goyette. In November 2012 Russell Goyette took full control of restaurant operations and things have been soaring ever since. Russell was nice enough to meet with me for this write up and provide an inside look at his pride and joy beautifully located on waterfront in Warren’s historic district. From our conversation it was clear to see his passion for the restaurant and the people who work there.
